Apply to the MSE Graduate Progam

Graduate Application Information

The application deadline to the Materials Science and Engineering department is January 15 for Fall admissions and October 15 for Spring admissions. The nonrefundable application fee is $65. Prospective students must be a graduate of Materials Science and Engineering or a related discipline at a recognized university with better than a "B" average. Admission is based on your overall academic performance and potential, including transcripts, recommendation letters, GRE scores, TOEFL scores, and the Statement of Purpose.

As an applicant, you must take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) if you are an international student AND your native language/mother tongue is not English, even if you have lived or studied in the United States. These scores must be sent to us by ETS to be considered official. This requirement cannot be waived. This includes Singapore applicants.

PLEASE NOTE: The application has been updated with a field to submit IELTS test scores. At this time, the Materials Science and Engineering department is not accepting IELTS test scores from applicants. If the IELTS section is complete and scores are submitted, you will be contacted to submit TOEFL test scores as well. The IELTS function was added to the application to accomodate other departments who are accepting IELTS scores.

The Graduate Admissions Committee thoroughly reviews each complete application. If you have questions regarding the application and/or admissions process, please see the FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS page, before contacting Jeanna Ossler via e-mail at .
